If you’re on the fence about getting a Handicap, let’s go over a few reasons why you should get on the bandwagon!
- It levels the playing field
Imagine you, being a weekend warrior and you want to go out for an afternoon tee time. You have one friend who crushes you every time and two others who are newer to the game but really want to work on their skills. If everyone has a Handicap, then you’re all able to play competitively against one another, all while having fun!
2. Compete in Local Competitions
If you’re looking to play in a local competition or tournament, many require that you have a handicap. This will allow the tournament to once again level the playing field.
3. Tracks Your Progress
You will be able to track your scores and see your progress over time. Whether you’re just looking to shave a few strokes or get serious about the game, having a handicap will give you great insight to your game!
4. Understanding the Handicap Index
If you don’t have one yet, you may have been asked “hey what’s your handicap?” and you may not have an answer. Do yourself a favor, get a Handicap!
5. Be Accurate
With a Handicap, you’ll know where you’re skill level is at. You won’t have to guess, saying maybe you’re around an 18-20 and then proceed to shoot an 80. You’ll no longer be invited to play after that!
Golfshot offers Handicaps in select states throughout the United States. Please visit your club to sign up for an official handicap. For those not in the United States, keep an eye out for something new that will let everyone play, everywhere!
I didn’t no you had the possebility to play at golf courses without HC (handicap), so this was interesting reading.
As far as I know, you need a HC in 99% of the golf courses here in Norway, to be premitted to go alone, (There are maybe a couple of Pay and Play golf courses you can go to without membership or HC), but in orderd to get a membership, you need a HC, and the way to get a HC, is to take a golf beginners course.
If/when you pass the course, you automaticly start with 54 in HC, and then start playing you selve down in HC for each season.
A season in Norway is normaly from early April to late October.
54 gives 3 exstra shot for each hole to get a par, or 54 extra after 18 holes.
36 gives 2 extra shot and 18 gives 1 extra shot pr. hole.
And if you ever reach scratch, you need to go on the golf courses par, 72 to score the same as a HC54 finishing with 126 strokes/shots.
This way a beginner can play with a semi-pro, and still have a thrilling competition. (The semi-pro need some patience thow)
Often it is required to have played your HC down to minimum 36 or less to go on the best/biggest golf courses in Norway.
This is because you need some ok skills, and don’t uses to much time to finish the 18 holes.
Sorry for all the info and for my Norwegian/english writhing, it was actually only the first sentence I ment to wrigh🥴
That is really interesting. Thank you for sharing!
No apology needed, however a Thanks is in order. Thank you, now I’ve got a question 🙋♂️
How do you figure out your Handicap? I just recently found out how to get my Bowling average, so I figure a Golf Handicap is next. Wisconsin USA
You can get a Handicap at your local club! Once you have that, you can input it into your Goflshot app and it will post your scores to your handicap!
So,facsinating and informative blog.I have learned many things from it .I have written what is my my golf handicap if i shoot 100?You can see https://oursportsstuff.com/what-is-my-golf-handicap-if-i-shoot-100/
Do I just keep track of my scores to know my handicap? Golfshot has all my scoring saved.
Golfshot uses Average to Par as our version of a Handicap Index. If you are not in the states, and have not purchased a GHIN Handicap, this is very similar based off your scores in Golfshot! You can read more about it here: https://shotzoom.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017710134-How-is-my-Golfshot-Average-to-Par-handicap-calculated-
I will consider a handicap when my smartwatch communicates with the samsung phone. Is this the Tizen Upgrade?
My problem is that the Auto Shot Tracking always sets 3W as club for the tee shot. 1W is marked as preferred driver. 🤷🏻♂️
I tried to find out the system of calculating the auto handicap.
Couldn’t get to the same result by analysing the last (5 or more) played rounds.
Any ideas?
Regards
Achim
Usually the app is fairly consistent with recognizing the clubs after so many rounds input, please email our support team directly at support@golfshot.com so they can check into your account and assist with this further!
They told me they had never had this complaint. I’ve been telling them this for a year or more
What do you do if you are new and trying to figure out your handicap score? I checked and my state of South Carolina doesn’t have an association registered.
Hi there! You should be able to register for a GHIN number with any club! Once you have that, you can link it on Golfshot!
Thank you so much this worked
But how do you get an accurate. Stableford score, when extra shots according to your Hcp is wrong and therefore missing points on several holes?
Please reach out to support@golfshot.com, there are a few missing details and they will be able to access your account to pinpoint what the issue may be and assist directly!
Do you need the pro version to get your handicap?
Currently yes, you need Pro to integrate your handicap to Golfshot.
