TOP STORY

Viktor Hovland won the Valspar Championship on Sunday and has no idea how it happened. His swing is so out of sorts that Hovland has gone through five coaches since he won the FedEx Cup in 2023.

He had gone eight months without making a 36-hole cut against a full field. Three shots behind with five to play, he rallied with three birdies to pass Justin Thomas and close with a 4-under 67 for a one-shot victory.

APPROACH

Viktor Hovland stuck this 7-iron from 186 yards to 5 feet on the tough par-4 16th at Innisbrook’s Snake Pit to help win the Valspar Championship.

Golf Digest Top Teacher Mark Blackburn explains that solid iron shots come down to clean contact and proper compression.

TOUR

Adam Hadwin missed the cut on Friday at the Valspar Championship, but that doesn’t mean his aim was off.

Although the Canadian was sent packing after missing the cut, his aim was impeccable during an outburst on the course.

CHIP SHOTS

⛳ Still smokin’.Miguel Angel Jiménez closed with a bogey-free 67 to win the Hoag Classic and become the first multi-time winner of the 2025 season on PGA TOUR Champions.

⛳ Switch hitter. Billy Horschel hit a 9-iron from near the base of a tree high in the air and onto the green, just like anyone would expect from a PGA Tour player. Except he hit this shot left-handed.

⛳ Sergi-oh no. Golf can be a cruel and complex game, particularly at the elite level. Sergio Garcia, after 26 years as a pro, was reminded horribly when he came within three feet of securing a place in the Open Championship at the Asian Tour’s International Series Macau in China.

⛳ Field flub. The LPGA made a glaring error that put a golfer in three tournaments she shouldn’t have been in, thereby leaving three qualified golfers out, according to a report. The clerical error caused a series of problems, and it’s unclear how those left out of the tournaments will be compensated.
