Per the USGA Handicap System, a Handicap Index® is issued through an authorized golf club. Golfshot has partnered with the NCGA, SCGA, WSGA, and AGA to provide authorized golf clubs in their jurisdiction for you to join. If you would like your Authorized Golf Association to work with Golfshot, have them contact us at email@example.com.
Depending on which Golfshot membership you have, you will be able to view specific features on your smart watch:
- For Golfshot – The hole’s par, handicap, and length as well as live GPS distances to the green.
- For Golfshot Pro – Accurate distances to all targets, hazards and greens, GPS aerial views, score entry, and shot tracking.
Golfshot Pro members can score directly from the watch. Simply go to the hole you are on, swipe to the menu and select Score. Your score will then reflect on your handheld device as well.
Golfshot Pro members can easily track shots right from their watch. Select “Track a Shot” from the main menu of the hole. Choose your club and then proceed to your ball. Click the green checkmark when you arrive at your ball and your tracked shot will be complete. These shots will contribute to your club statistics within the Golfshot app.
Since the two are paired using Bluetooth, the maximum range is 32 feet (10 meters) to receive live updating GPS distances. Without the Bluetooth connection you still may enter score and review hole information. GPS-enabled wearables like the Sony Smartwatch 3 use built-in GPS to provide you location updates directly from the watch, without a paired phone nearby.
Your wearable device should last well over an 18 hole round. Make sure to fully charge your watch before you start your round. When not in use, turn the screen off by placing your palm over the face of the watch.
5.0 Lollipop or higher.
From the GPS Screen tap the “Score” button in the bottom right. This will bring you to the Score Summary screen. Press the name of any golfer to enter their score and stats in Score Entry. If you are the only golfer, you will be taken directly to the Score Entry screen.
Access the Round Menu by tapping your phone’s menu button or the menu button in the action bar and hit “End Round”. You can choose to save your round or discard it from here. Once saved, you can rate your experience and share stats online with friends.
The Golfshot app will display the scorecard if your phone is turned horizontally. It uses the built-in accelerometer to determine when your phone is rotated. Rotating your phone to a vertical orientation will remove the scorecard view. You can disable this function in Settings > General > Scorecard When Rotated to Off.
Yes, you can select from Yards or Meters within Settings > General > Use Yards and Miles or Meters and Kilometers.
You can enter in your equipment by opening the Settings > Equipment > and press the add equipment icon in the top right portion of the action bar. Select your equipment type and specify the make and model you use from there.
Yes, you can retire your old clubs when you upgrade so that your old club stats are kept separate from your new club stats. In the Equipment screen you can select your old clubs and press Retire. Do not forget to add your new equipment so you can begin updating your club distances in Golfshot.
To get the most out of your battery charge, go to Settings > General > Background GPS and choose 1 to 3 minutes. You can also use these battery-saving tips: Charge your phone fully before each round, turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, reduce the screen brightness, and lock your screen between each shot.
Put your iPhone in Power Save Mode between shots to conserve battery life on your phone and improve performance.
- Start a round on your iPhone and open the Round Menu > Power Save Mode
- When using Power Save Mode, there is no need to lock your screen. Golfshot will automatically turn your screen off if you put your phone in your pocket or bag.
- Decrease the Background GPS time in your app Settings. When combined with Power Save Mode, this will minimize battery drain due to GPS.
To sync with your region please open Settings > Courses > then choose your State or Country and hit ON. All the courses in the region you choose will immediately be downloaded and ready to play.
Power save mode is another way to lock your screen, conserve battery life and stay connected with GPS signals. This option also allows you to lock your screen without the use of a passcode. Press the green battery icon to activate this feature.
Yes, GPS remains on in the background while you phone is locked so that you can immediately access your GPS distances when you unlock your phone. The default setting is five minutes. You can lower the length of time the GPS remains connected to increase battery life by opening Settings > General > Background GPS > adjust as necessary.
Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top of GPS view, or double-tap to zoom in on the aerial portion. Double-tap again to return to the GPS Screen.
Select Preview eye icon from the top of the GPS screen and visualize the hole with a 3D flyover preview. Drag your finger up or down to change the direction/speed of the flyover animation.
When you set Aggressive Caddie to ON, Golfshot will guide you towards playing your longer distance clubs and cutting corners on doglegs. High-risk recommendations lead to shorter approach shots and may produce a better score but a misplaced shot could leave you in a hazard. To adjust, open Settings > General > Aggressive Caddie > set to suit your playing style. The default setting is OFF.
Golfshot has teamed up with the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) and the Southern California Golfshot Association (SCGA) to let you maintain a Handicap Index® directly from Golfshot! Pro members can link an existing GHIN® Number to their Golfshot account and post scores.
GHIN® stands for Golf Handicap and Information Network®, a service that helps golfers maintain a Handicap Index®. A GHIN® Number is like your personal handicap account number. You can use this number to post scores to your Handicap Index® from your home golf club, online, or from any licensed club in America.
With Golfshot, maintaining your Handicap Index® has never been easier. Once you’ve linked your GHIN® Number, rounds played with Golfshot can be posted directly from the app. This means no more trips to the clubhouse, and no more crumpled scorecards in your back pocket!
Pro members can link an existing GHIN® Number to Golfshot. You can purchase a Pro membership as an in-app upgrade or by going here.
Once you’re a Golfshot Pro member, simply tap Handicap Index® on the Golfshot home screen and follow the instructions for linking your GHIN® Number.
That’s it. Now you can maintain your Handicap Index® directly from Golfshot!
You don’t have to be a professional to maintain a Handicap Index®. In fact, a Handicap Index® can open the door to new opportunities and help level the playing field out on the course. Once you’ve established a handicap, you can enter tournaments, join leagues, and compete against golfers of all skill levels.
I’ve posted a few scores, but my Handicap Index® hasn’t changed, or my handicap shows as No Handicap (NH). Why is that?
Your Golfshot round may not be listed for posting because the course you played does not have a USGA® slope and rating.
There may be rare cases where a round played on a course with a USGA® slope and rating is still not listed for posting. This typically happens when teeboxes have changed since you played your round in a way that Golfshot has a hard time understanding. You can contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we will help you resolve these issues.
In order to minimize the effects of one bad hole, or one bad round on your overall Handicap Index®, the USGA® employs a system known as Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). The ESC formula considers both your current handicap and the difficulty of the course you are playing to determine a maximum number of strokes that can count towards your overall score on each hole during a round. For example, ESC might dictate that a mid-handicap golfer, playing a course of average difficulty, take no more than a 7 on any hole on the course.
Unfortunately, Golfshot does not support a Handicap Index® for junior golfers at this time. If you are a junior golfer, and you would like to use Golfshot to maintain your Handicap Index®, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact or email email@example.com to let us know you’re out there.
You can scroll up or down through the list of all GPS targets on the left side of your GPS Hole View screen. The distance to the center of the green will always be displayed in green near the top of the list. Tap any target in the GPS List and the target icon in the aerial image will move to the hazard or layup you selected. As you progress down each hole the distances to each target will adjust to your current position.

At the top of the GPS screen you can toggle between the “GPS” view which includes imagery of your current hole or the “LIST” view to just see distances. You can scroll up or down through the list of all GPS targets on the left side of your screen. Tap any target in this list from the GPS view and the target icon in the aerial image will move to the hazard or layup you selected. As you progress down each hole, the distances to each target will adjust to your current position.
After you have hit your ball, press the Track icon at the bottom of the GPS screen. A box will appear at the bottom of your screen asking you to proceed to your ball. As you locate your ball, you will see the distance increase in the bottom blue bar. Once you arrive at your ball, press “At my ball” and you will be taken to the primary Track screen. Indicate your shot accuracy and then hit “Save”. You can also manually enter the distance for a shot by pressing the Edit option below the club on the track menu.
Golfshot has a calculated handicap that automatically adjusts after five 18 hole rounds are saved. Go into settings > Handicap > turn Auto Handicap to ON. Turn this feature off if you wish to manually update your handicap. Turn Handicap Scoring to ON in the round set up screen to have your automated handicap figured into your score.
Golfshot also supports official Handicap Index® scoring, tracking and posting.
Contact our support team at Golfshot.com/contact/create and select ‘Report a Course Problem’ and provide images of the current scorecard. Our mapping team will update your course within 14 days of receiving your request.
Downloading the aerial images requires an Internet connection. We recommend talking with your service provider prior to travelling internationally to determine the network charges that you may incur through using Internet on your phone. We suggest syncing with the region you are traveling to prior to leaving your home country. This will provide you with the scorecard and GPS information for the courses mapped in the country you are traveling to.
Your application purchases are tied to your Google Play or iTunes account and can be installed again without additional charges. You can install previous purchases by making sure you sign into your device with the same account you used to purchase Golfshot.
